CASA RURAL
2017
Architects: RCR Architects.
Location: Girona, Spain.
Year: 2007.
Casa Rural, designed by RCR Architects in 2007, is a home situated within the hills of Girona, Spain. With the Pyrénées behind them, and overlooking grassy flatlands, Casa Rural was designed to integrate seamlessly within its surroundings. This project called for a built model to depict the sightlines within and around Casa Rural. Keeping in line with the brief’s ethos, and vision for Casa Rural, the model features a minimalistic approach to materiality and form to emphasise its streamlined integration with its surroundings.

Programs & Materials Used: Plywood, Dremel, Metal Sheets, Rhino 3D, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.

Using the skeleton of Casa Rural, a collection of hybrid drawings were created to create stylized interpretations of an existing reality through the use of colour, pattern and texture. Using minimalistic techniques, the first illustration depicts the linear connection between the structure and its surroundings by reducing it to its most essential forms. In contrast, the second illustration, displays the relationship between a singular space within the structure, and the land around it. Implementing a more stylized aesthetic, pattern and colour is used to symbolise light, shadow, and elevation.
